If SkyQ is being unreliable and you have drop outs or streaming issues then its most likely caused by the SkyQ Wifi mesh interfering with the Unifi Wi-Fi.
When you set up the main SkyQ box it creates its own Wi-Fi called something similar to “SKYAQFD”. This is used for streaming the video between the main SkyQ box and the SkyQ Minis. By default it runs on both the 2.4Ghz band and 5Ghz band simultaneously but only needs one of them.
On 5Ghz it uses wider channels than the normal Unifi (80Mhz as opposed to 40Mhz) and interferes with any Wi-Fi nearby.
The solution is to run the SkyQ Wifi on the 5Ghz channels only and run the Unifi Wi-Fi on 2.4Ghz. Then the twain shall not meet or interfere.
Although untested this should work for any Wi-Fi system however the instructions below are aimed at the Unifi Wi-Fi system.
Step 1 – Disable 2.4Ghz on the SkyQ network
Step 2 – Disable 5Ghz on the Unifi Network
Now the SkyQ box can only run on 5Ghz and the Unifi system is only running on 2.4Ghz.
Why that way around? Because 2.4Ghz has been around for longer and therefore all devices will be compatible.
