VPN broken after Windows Update

With the January 2022 Windows update release many VPNs have stopped working. They wont connect.

The fix is to either upgrade to Windows 11, run a Microsoft hot fix or remove the patch.

 

Removing teh patch needs consideration because it fixes various vulnerabilities however it breaks the VPN.

 

To remove the patch:

 

  1. click on the Windows button
  2. type cmd
  3. right click on “Command Prompt” and select Run as administrator
  4. type “wusa /uninstall /kb:5009543
  5. follow the instructions.
