🧠 How it works (simple explanation)
- You sign up at Gravatar and upload a profile picture.
- You associate that picture with your email address.
- When you use that email on a site that supports Gravatar:
- The site checks Gravatar’s servers.
- Your avatar automatically appears next to your name.
So instead of uploading a profile image everywhere, you do it once.
👍 What Gravatar is used for
- Blog comments (especially WordPress sites)
- Forums and community platforms
- Developer tools (GitHub historically supported it)
- Contact cards or user profiles in some systems
For example, if someone comments on your MSP website using their email, a Gravatar-enabled theme might show their avatar automatically.
🔐 Is it safe?
Generally yes, but a few things to know:
- Your avatar is linked to your email hash, not your raw email.
- Anyone who knows your email could potentially look up your public avatar.
- Some privacy-focused users avoid it for that reason.
