SMTP AUTH USERS – The official guide from Heimdal
Our notes are in bold as a warning.
This feature allows you to add an SMTP Authenticated User for a Printer or a Copy-Machine to send out emails through Email Security. To use this feature you need to specify a username, a password, and the IP Address:

- Username: smtp (or any other username)
MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR DOMAIN NAME: If you want to authenticate as we*****@********in.com, then simply set the username to website. - Password: <your-password>
MAKE SURE THE PASSWORD IS 10 CHARACTERS LONG: This is the only complexity rule. - Confirm Password: <confirm-your-password>
- IP Address: <your-IP-Address>
USE WHATSMYIP.ORG on a windows machine, or use ‘curl ifconfig.me’ on a linux machine
Press Add, then Save changes and Update Network Settings.
To test the SMTP Auth feature, you can open a PowerShell window and run the following command:
Send-MailMessage -From 'sm**@********in.com' -To 're*******@*********in.com' -Subject 'Test Email' -Body 'Testing the SMTP Relay Service' -SmtpServer 'eu-esec-outbound.heimdalsecurity.com' -Usessl -Port 587 -Credential (Get-Credential)
You will be prompted to insert the credentials (sm**@********in.com* and password) you added in the HEIMDAL Dashboard. * – Although in the Heimdal Dashboard, the username does not include the domain, in the authentication popup you are required to specify the domain.
As worked examples:
EXAMPLE 1
Your domain is ‘yourdomain.com’ as set up in email security.
You enter ‘website’ as the user in email security
The test user to authenticate against is ‘we*****@********in.com‘
EXAMPLE 2
Your domain is ‘yourdomain.com’ as set up in email security.
You enter ‘we*****@********in.com‘ as the user in email security
The test user to authenticate against is ‘we*****@********in.com@yourdomain.com’
